headspace Sarina is a youth service supported by headspace Mackay and run under lead agency North and West Remote Health to deliver services to youth aged 12 – 25 years. We’re looking for a passionate, experienced, and dedicated person to join our team!

headspace Sarina is seeking a part-time Youth Access Clinician to join our team in Sarina (22.8 Hours per week). The successful candidate will work to effectively engage, screen, assess, refer, and provide counselling to young people within brief intervention programs and coordinate care.

In this role, you will have a direct role in the engagement, assessment and coordination of care for young people accessing headspace services and will assist in the referral of young people to appropriate programs, either within the headspace centre, the headspace satellite or other community agencies. This position will support headspace’s “No wrong door” approach for youth mental health and wellbeing. You will also work closely with our multi-disciplinary clinical team at Sarina, Mackay, and the Whitsundays to understand the headspace model and identify opportunities to promote our services in the wider Sarina community.

Reporting to the Clinical Lead, the ideal candidate will be able to relate to young people in a way that is relevant and appropriate and provide services in a youth friendly manner.

Skills and experience

The right candidate will have/be working toward suitable qualifications in Youth, Health Promotion, Public Health, Community Development, Social/Behavioural Science, Social Work/Planning or a related discipline.

In addition, you will need:

  • Demonstrated experience working with young people with mental health, alcohol and other drugs, and other social issues.
  • The ability and experience to be able to deliver brief therapeutic interventions, counselling services and treatment planning.
  • Experience working in a multidisciplinary team environment, coordinating client care.
  • All final applicants for this position will be asked to consent to a criminal record check, obtain a QLD Blue Card and NDIS worker screening check.
  • A current, unrestricted 'C' class Australian Driver's Licence; and
  • The right to live and work in Australia
